We crossed from Thailand into Laos by boat at the Golden Triangle expecting a simple cultural day trip… but what we discovered after arriving shocked me. In this video, I share my unexpected experience visiting a “new city” inside a Laos Special Economic Zone — a place that looked modern, organized, and almost completely empty during the day. After returning, I researched the area and learned about its international reputation tied to online scam compounds, organized crime, and human trafficking investigations connected to the region. What appeared calm and harmless on the surface had a much more complicated story beneath it. I also share one of the most unexpected travel moments of the day — trying local snake moonshine (yes, with an actual snake in the bottle).
