Recorded live on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 Town Hall Seattle — The Forum This event was part of Seattle Arts & Lectures’ 2022/23 Community-Curated Series, presented in partnership with Sasha taqʷšəblu LaPointe. Indigenous human rights lawyer, writer, and activist Julian Aguon joins us for a powerful conversation about justice, storytelling, and hope. A native of Guam and the founder of Blue Ocean Law, Aguon works at the intersection of Indigenous rights and environmental justice, advocating for communities across the Pacific and beyond. Drawing from his book No Country for Eight-Spot Butterflies, Aguon blends memoir and manifesto—interweaving childhood stories from the villages of Guam with incisive political commentary on nuclear weapons, climate change, colonialism, and truth-telling in an era of widespread obfuscation. Through compelling prose and poetry, he reflects on love, grief, joy, and resilience, illuminating both personal and collective paths toward healing and justice. Moderated by Sasha taqʷšəblu LaPointe, this conversation invites audiences to reckon with history, bear witness to ongoing struggles, and imagine a more just future rooted in care for land, community, and one another. https://lectures.org/event/julian-aguon/
