Recorded on August 7th 2021 in the living room of the Iron Curtain in Dallas. Instagram:   / someofthatplease   We drove up to Dallas on a Saturday to meet Alex at a house in East Dallas where they had recorded some of their new record, "Great Big Wild Oak." Joshua, or as we know him - Turbo, helped us set up some mics to record the piano since we didn't have the gear. We reminisced about shows at Henry and I's old house that our mutual friend Chance would throw. Alex offered us snacks, and covered Hovvdy and Alex G on the piano for a little while we all chatted and got set up. Meanwhile, Turbo and their housemates took down pieces of large sheet metal that their landlord so kindly installed over all of the windows on the first floor. This was presumably to "keep them safe," how benevolent. After some light was finally let into the room, and everyone was in good spirits, Alex played Swim for us. The debut full-length album from songwriter Alex Montenegro, better known by “Skirts,” is a convergence of Southwestern folk rock and contemporary percussion, adorned with Texas imagery and piercing guitar licks. Entitled Great Big Wild Oak, the record spans ten intimate tracks that paint sonic portraits of Montenegro’s memories through impressive arrangements and warmhearted vocals.
