Smirisary Beach is a small, sandy beach with relatively short stretch of sand, but with picturesque rock formations, interesting shape and amazing views. It is located in Moidart (north-western part of Lochaber), near village Glenuig but access to it is quite tricky. The walk to the beach is actually an attraction in itself. Slightly over mile long trail starts from the small car park, trails down to crofts of Smirisary, then turns into boggy path through pastures, climbs up or down through rocky bed of waterfall, to traverse hills which are rising above the beach. At few points it is barely visible and difficult to navigate, especially near the waterfall. I heard that many people actually turn around and went back to the car at this point. It definitely seems that some walkers got sidetracked there, as there are two paths from the waterfall crossing - one up, the other down the hill. I suggest the latter. We unfortunately chose the upper one, and the path which starts there is less visible, has few dead ends, tricky descent and gives you ticks 😜. The only upside - it is less boggy. We used the lower path on our return and it was so wide I couldn't believe we missed it initially. Thanks to the difficult access, the beach is not crowded - we saw only two other people there, despite the fact it is one of the most important stops for people kayaking along the Lochaber coast.
