Days 39-40. 85km (85283kms 8yrs) It barely rained but the low thick sea mist meant I was packing away a sodden tent. Regardless of how grey it was this expansive white sand beach was glorious. Only one walker and one jogger passed me all morning as the clouds came and went and came again. Today I would continue along the coast to the end point of Finistère and Brittany at Pointe Saint Mathieu. To reach it I had about 80kms or so to cover crossing first a couple of fjord-like inlets and then hugging the coast as the road dropped down to each little village. The beaches here are immense arcs of whiteish sand, while by afternoon the inlets are muddy brown at low tide, colourful little boats temporarily stranded. Being Sunday the MAMILs were out and once again Gibbo was mistaken for an electric bike - by a cyclist now! How rude! 😆 Pointe Saint Mathieu with its lighthouse and abbey ruins - today featuring a bagpiper - made for a suitably dramatic turning point. Here I round the corner and begin heading properly south through France. Five kilometres on at Plougonvelin I arrived at the home of Warm Showers hosts Gaëlle & Seb, half an hour later arrived biketourer Emanuel! I’d bumped into him again! He stopped only overnight whereas I enjoyed a ‘rest’ day of chores and admin catchup. Though out the first night, on my second evening there I got to properly hang out with my hosts; having lived themselves several years in Australia we had much in common to discuss. It was lovely to reminisce together - as natives of cloudy places - of the wonderful land of Australian and its (usually) enviable climate.
