Sunday bus on March 2nd, 2025. Leaving from Nine Mile Lake, we navigated off-trail to Krankspur Junction, the South Coombe, and finally a spectacular pond on the Gibson River, which was one of the ten locations where Mike Naughton wished to have his ashes scattered. It's not hard to see why he picked this place. We paid our respects to Mike with a quiet, contemplative lunch followed by some fun telemarking down the rocky outcrop. On the way back, we discovered that a moose had followed our tracks earlier in the day but, being heavier than we are, had broken through the ice and scraped its leg. We tracked the injured moose for a long way before it disappeared into the woods and we headed for home. This was an ambitious trip for the "slow group" on the bus but everyone made it out in good spirits, and it was worth exerting ourselves to visit such a sacred place on such a perfect day.
