Today for St. Patrick’s Day the primates in Brookfield Zoo’s Tropic World: Africa were definitely seeing green! Animal care staff dyed the river and waterfall with green food coloring in the Angolan colobus and red-tailed guenon’s exhibit. The gorillas’ habitat was decked out in green-colored wood wool, which they use as bedding. They also received nutritious shamrock-shaped treats made of ground monkey chow, oatmeal, wheat germ, flaxseed, bananas, unsweetened applesauce, and peanut butter topped with green-dyed yogurt, which they seemed to thoroughly enjoy. Animal care staff also gave them green-colored applesauce and gelatin jiggles. The Chicago Zoological Society, which manages Brookfield Zoo, inspires conservation leadership by connecting people with wildlife and nature. The Chicago Zoological Society is a private nonprofit organization that operates Brookfield Zoo on land owned by the Forest Preserves of Cook County. The Society is known throughout the world for Brookfield Zoo's innovative, naturalistic, multispecies exhibits and for its international role in animal population management and wildlife conservation.
