Dungeness is a strange place. Desolate yet beautiful. Or maybe just desolate, depending in your point of view. I love it but had never been there on the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway (RHDR). Charlie had, many years ago, so one bright November morning we decided to go. Dungeness has been referred to as Britain's only desert. Sadly this isn't technically true, but it's a label that has stuck and it adds to the mystery of the place. Dungeness sticks out into the English Channel, as though it wants to keep away from the rest of Kent. What I also love about Dungeness is how the sea is so deep at that point. You wouldn't know without seeing a nautical chart and it's so strange given how flat the land is, yet it drops away like a cliff into the mysterious depths.
