Restoring the Landmarks! By Pastor Gary Wayne Text: Exodus 20:1-17, Proverbs 22:28, Jeremiah 6:16 Dutch Sheets on Oct. 8-10 conducted A Holy Convocation: Reset 2020 - watch it on You Tube. In that meeting “Reset 2020” Dutch Sheets stated that we as a nation need to go back to our ancient paths, to restore the ancient landmark. In August, I visited a message I preached when I tried out for Faith Chapel in 1987. “God Loves A Dreamer.” As Dutch ministered, I felt like I should do that again – revisit a different message when I tried out – “Remove Not The Landmarks!” In Exodus 20, God set some major landmarks, that when we follow them, we are blessed by God. In our culture, many of those landmarks have been covered over, pushed and moved to where the boundaries are wherever one wants them to be. It is worth noting that in Jesus’ messages, He re-established each one of the “Ten Commandments.” #1 Exo.20:3 “You shall have no other gods before Me.” Secular humanism says, “I need nobody, I am everything, we are all gods.” #2 Ver.4-5 “You shall not make carved images, you shall not bow down to them.” “Pastor, I don’t carve idols and worship them.” But anything that becomes more important than God has become an idol. #3 Ver.7 You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.” Years ago, a famous singer Berry McGuire asked, “Why do people use the name Jesus Christ to curse? Why not Buddha, or Hare Krishna?” Jesus is the only name that can save us. So the enemy tries to make that name not only common, but a curse word. You can talk about any other so called “god” but when you say the name Jesus, people react. So does our enemy. #4 Ver.8 Remember eh Sabbath day to keep it holy. We could spend a few hours on this topic. In the O. T., the sabbath was on Saturday, but when Jesus rose from the dead, He came out of the grave on Sunday morning – and the early church in the N.T. began having gatherings on Sunday. The principle of this 4th commandment is to take one day a week and honor God on that day. Set it aside for Him. This landmark is one that I think is often abused. It’s almost as if it has been re-written – “If it fits into your schedule, If you can make it to church…..” Going to church doesn’t replace #4, I think it’ part of it, but Honoring God on His day is a landmark that needs to be restored in this nation. #5 Ver.12 Honor your father & mother. #6 Ver.13 You shall not murder. #7 Ver. 14 You shall not commit adultery. Again this landmark today has been shifted to wherever people want it to be. God was very clear about the sanctity of marriage. Our culture needs to re-establish this landmark to where God placed it. Marriage is between a man and a woman. This is not open for debate – this is not my opinion. It is God’s boundary. #8 Ver.15 You shall not steal. #9 Ver.16 You shall not bear false witness. Should we spend some quality time talking about gossip? Or listening to gossip? Four things to ask yourself before you speak or listen: 1. Is it true? 2. Is it uplifting about the person? (Eph.4:29 “Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.”) #10 Ver.17 You shall not covet.
