It appears as though the green woods are laughing to express how happy they are. 2. Who are the children and what do they sing? Ans. The children are Mary, Susan and Emily. They are girls who live in the nearby village. They sing a song to spread cheer and express their joy. 3. Where is the table spread? Ans. The table is spread outdoors in the woods. 4. When the green woods laugh with the voice of joy. How are the woods laughing? Ans. The woods are laughing because it is spring time and the birds, animals, insects and children are all happy. The dimples in the running stream, the lush green hills, the open meadows, the grasshopper chirping, and children singing- all represent the laughter of the woods and the abundance that the season brings. 5.What is special about the food that the children are eating? Ans. The children are eating food that is easily available in nature. They are all heading towards a table that has been laid for them. The children are eating nuts and cherries which are kept on the table. 6. Why has the poem been called Laughing Song? Ans. The poem has been called Laughing Song because it is a melodious composition based on the theme of a joyful nature. Spring is such a beautiful season that it makes everybody happy. There is a song on everybody’s lips. The forest, hills, meadows and trees look fresh and green. There is color everywhere. Fruits are found in abundance.
