I was listening to the radio when I was 7 and a song came on that was much longer than the 3 minute formula common on pop radio stations. My mom loved Herb Albert and the Beatles, my father preferring Mozart and Schubert...The song heard stuck out.. The track's length and experimental nature was fascinating. The final Piano Chord hit directly in my heart. Little did I know it was 5 pianos being played simultaneously. The was the song itself was a build up, constructed of ideas fused together was very interesting to me. What is I started a composition with one piano and gradually added piano's and orchestration. would support the journey? Could I keep the music from sounding like a cluttered mess? Polyphonic approach was needed. The clock is about to strike midnight.... In the Key of See • Key to St. Germain, by Iona Miller, (c)2014 In the shadows of my form, I have two hands, two eyes, two ears and that's just my head. Between these two ears is a message from my heart, whispered through veins of forgotten melodies. One piano is an island, solitary and echoing in the void. Five pianos is an ocean, vast and turbulent, swallowing silence in waves of harmony. I wanted to create a piece that starts with one piano and ends up with 5 pianos and do so in a way no prior composer has ever attempted. Yet, what if the keys unlock doors not of sound, but of secrets buried in the mist? And in the final chord, does the mystery dissolve, or merely deepen into eternity?
