Figura leggendaria, punto di riferimento fondamentale per artisti e architetti, icona dell’architettura utopica del dopoguerra: è Yona Friedman che negli anni 50 con la sua teoria dell’architettura mobile, ha messo in discussione la visione modernista secondo cui sono gli abitanti a doversi adattare a un edificio e non viceversa: attraverso bozzetti, modelli e animazioni la mostra racconta lo sviluppo di questa teoria e, allo stesso tempo, esplora il tema dell’improvvisazione come “possibilità” nel mondo dell’architettura, da lui teorizzata sin dagli anni ‘70. La mostra, organizzata dalla Power Station of Art di Shanghai, e presentata in una nuove veste al MAXXI, racconta il rapporto intenso e conflittuale tra la dimensione utopica del design e la sua realizzazione, attraverso il lavoro di Yona Friedman. The theory of mobile architecture, conceived by Friedman in 1950s, called into question the Modernist vision whereby the inhabitants are required to adapt to a building and not the reverse: through sketches, models and animations the exhibition recounts the development of this theory while at the same time exploring the theme of improvisation as a “possibility” in the world of architecture, as theorised by Friedman from the 1970s. The exhibition, born out of the collaboration with the Power Station of Art in Shanghai presents the intense and conflictual relationship between the Utopian dimension of design and its realization through the work of Yona Friedman.
