One of the most controversial documentary programs ever produced by the ABC, dealing with the activities of police in the Sydney inner-city suburb of Redfern. It is not a place for the faint-hearted, and is regarded as one of the most volatile police districts in the country, with a history of clashes between police and Aborigines. In 1991, an ABC-TV documentary crew gained exclusive access to Redfern Police for six weeks, following several officers on their round of duties. The officers include Michael, 19, just out of the Police Academy, and Glenn, who at 26 is an "old hand" in Redfern. The program is a revealing portrait of police culture in Redfern. It drew an unprecedented response from viewers, police and public figures because of its frank depiction of police methods, its uncensored language and its uncompromising realism.
