Dutch Cellist and composer Joseph Hollman was a well-known artist in his day. Camille Saint-Saëns even wrote his Cello Concerto No. 2 for him. (There's major work that virtually no one bothers with! But that's for a another year.) Listen to my Podcast about cello music and hear a short bio about Hollmann here: https://anchor.fm/forgottencellomusic... This "Berceuse" comes from a set of 4 pieces called "Quatre morceux faciles" or Four Easy Pieces. That's quite mis-leading though, becuase they are not easy in the sense of being simple or quick to learn. Neither can a beginner even start to figure out how to overcome all the rhythmic and technical challenges contained within. Regardless, they are perfect for the intermediate student wishing to learn and play something in a short period--a week should do for learning the notes.
