(1 Apr 2025) ASSOCIATED PRESS Beijing - 1 April 2025 Spokesperson: Guo Jiakun Duration: 8:59 STORYLINE: 1. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a statement on Monday on the U.S. State Department website, accusing China of blocking U.S. diplomats and journalists’ access to Tibet. According to the Reciprocal Access to Tibet Act, the U.S. will impose visa restrictions on Chinese officials involved in formulating or implementing policies that restrict foreign access to Tibet. What is China's comment on this? The U.S.'s actions grossly interfere in Tibet affairs and China's internal affairs, seriously violating international law and basic norms of international relations. China strongly deplores and firmly opposes this. I must stress that Tibet is open and has never imposed restrictions on foreigners entering Tibet. Tibet receives a large number of foreign tourists and people from various sectors every year, with 320,000 foreign tourists in 2024 alone. Considering Tibet's unique geographical and climatic conditions, the Chinese government has taken necessary management and protection measures for foreigners entering Tibet in accordance with the law. China welcomes foreign visitors to Tibet for tourism, business, and other activities, but they must comply with Chinese laws and regulations. We oppose the groundless smearing of Tibet's human rights, religious, and cultural development status, and oppose foreign officials using the pretext of performing duties in Tibet to engage in interference and disruptions. China urges the U.S. to honor its commitments on the Tibet issue, stop supporting Tibet independence forces, and stop using Tibet-related issues to interfere in China's internal affairs. China will take necessary and reciprocal countermeasures against the erroneous moves by the U.S. 2. The U.S. State Department released the 2025 Hong Kong Policy Act report and announced sanctions on six Chinese officials. What is China's comment on this? The U.S. has once again released a so-called report filled with lies and fallacies, smearing the "One Country, Two Systems" principle, attacking the Hong Kong National Security Law and the Hong Kong National Security Ordinance, denigrating the state of democracy, rule of law, freedom, and human rights in Hong Kong, interfering in the handling of Hong Kong national security cases, slandering the extraterritorial application of Hong Kong national security laws, and imposing illegal unilateral sanctions on officials of the Central Government's institutions in Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government. These despicable acts seriously interfere in Hong Kong affairs and China's internal affairs, grossly trample on the principles of international law and basic norms of international relations and fully expose the U.S.'s sinister intentions to undermine Hong Kong's prosperity and stability and to contain China's development. China firmly deplores and opposes these actions and strongly condemns them. 3. The leaders of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan signed a treaty Monday on the tri-border point, completely resolving the border issues among the three countries. What is China's comment on this? China congratulates the three countries and highly appreciates their peaceful negotiation to resolve the border issues. This aligns with the trend of peaceful development and is conducive to further promoting regional peace, stability, and prosperity. =========================================================== Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork Twitter: / ap_archive Facebook: / aparchives Instagram: / apnews You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/you...
