Here's a short clip of Dave Mustaine, Nick Menza and David Ellefson's final moments and rehearsal. Watch the trio wailing away on the Megadeth classic's "Holy Wars... The Punishment Due" and "Rust in Peaceβ¦ Polaris" two years before Nick's tragic death. They had no Idea this would be the last time they'd see each other. The rehearsal took place at Dave Mustaine's house, studio in Fallbrook San Diego during December of 2014 as part of what turned out to be a second failed attempt to reunite the classic "Rust In Peace" lineup. July 23, 1964 Born in Munich, Germany, where his father, jazz musician Don Menza, had been stationed with the U.S. Army. Nick Menza began playing drums at the age of two, at which age he performed at his first public concert when during the intermission, someone sat him down on Jack DeJohnette's drum kit and he proceeded to play. Menza's influences stem from being nurtured around the tutelage of such notables as Buddy Rich, Steve Gadd, Nick Ceroli, Jeff Porcaro, and Louie Bellson, Neil Peart, John Bohm and Tommy Aldridge Tragically, Menza died on May 21, 2016, at 51, collapsing from heart failure, behind his drum kit during during a live performance with his band OHM at The Baked Potato jazz club in Los Angeles. His death stunned the metal community, with tributes highlighting his talent and warm personality. A father of two, heβd spent his final weeks glowing with pride over time with his sons. His legacy endures through Megadethβs classic albums and a forthcoming documentary, "This Was My Life: Nick Menza's Metal Memories With Megadeth And Beyond" Distributed by Bayview Entertainment - A red carpet premiere of the documentary will happen on Thursday, April 10 2025 at the Laemmle Royal theater in Los Angeles, California, located at 11523 Santa Monica Boulevard. Members of the Menza family, cast and crew will be in attendance for a question-and-answer session. Director and edited by Holly Mollohan Grayson - This Was My Life, is narrated by David Ellefson, Menzaβs journey from a jazz-influenced prodigy to a thrash metal icon remains a testament to his resilience and musical passion. The Menza family stated: "We are excited for the fans to see the life Nick lived before, during, and after MEGADETH, it was quite the journey. Stay tuned for an epic documentary. As Nick would say, 'It's gonna be RAD."
