Over the last number of years, Ballynahinch Primary School has recognised a growing need to help pupils with self-regulation. Teachers and staff noticed that many children required additional support to manage their emotions and behaviours within the school environment. Previously, Creative Activity had worked with the school to install a sensory circuit in the corridor, which had already proven beneficial for pupils. With the appointment of a new principal, the school began repurposing several spaces, identifying the need for a fully dedicated sensory room as a priority. The sensory room has already received extremely positive feedback from both pupils and staff. Children are visiting the room daily and are benefiting from having a dedicated safe space to regulate and express themselves. Staff have found it to be a valuable tool in supporting emotional wellbeing and behaviour management across the school.
