Are there any nice old historic pubs in London's Camden Town? I endeavour to find out, and it's a bit of a mixed bag. As usual I picked a handful of pubs and take a look at their exteriors, interiors and history, plus a quick note about the real ale offering (spoiler alert, there mostly wasn't any). Along the way I discuss: A probably apocryphal account of Lord Rochester dressing up as the devil to taunt Old Mother Red Cap. That also apocryphal story of how the Dublin Castle, Windsor Castle, Edinburgh Castle and Pembroke Castle pubs were built to keep the labourers from various parts of Britain and Ireland apart. The Camden Brewery and where the Elephant's Head got its name. The Camden Town murder. What are Koolime and Phosphade? Can you still get them in a London pub? (Spoiler alert: no, you can't).
