Tibet is a fabulously beautiful Mountainous Region, in which, however, it is not easy for animals to survive. After all, the rarefied mountain air, low rainfall and harsh climate create some problems for local residents. But our hero, despite his size, is perfectly prepared for life in such conditions. You are on the ANIMAL INSTINCT channel and today we will look at a Yak a day. Don't forget to rate this video and subscribe to the channel. And we are already starting. Meet this Yak and it looks very unusual: the head of a cow, the body of a bison, the tail of a horse, and the hair of a goat. And at the same time I'm still grunting, an unusual combination. And for their voice, Yaks are often called grunting bulls. The fact is that they do not know how to moo and make sounds similar to grunting when they are dissatisfied or annoyed with something. But only domestic Yaks do this, wild ones are usually silent, so they are also called dumb. When you look at this animal, you immediately feel its power. A huge, low-set head, a muscular body with long hair and a hump on the back plus short legs make our hero a very recognizable silhouette and Yaks are the real heavyweights of Tibet. After all, old bulls can reach a mass of two thousand two hundred pounds. At the same time, the length of their body, excluding the tail, reaches up to twelve feet, and the height at the withers is up to six and a half feet. And males, as it should be, are about twice as large as females. Although domestic Yaks cannot boast of such data, and they are half smaller than their wild counterparts, and besides, they also show a much calmer disposition. But both are perfectly adapted to the harsh mountain climate. Yaks have a dense layer of subcutaneous fat and a thick undercoat, which allow the animals to easily withstand severe frosts and harsh winds. But because of this, animals do not tolerate temperatures above 15 degrees, quickly overheat and get sick. Therefore, in the summer they climb the mountains to heights of up to twenty thousand feet. The air there is discharged quite strongly, but the yaks have large lungs and a large heart, which effectively pumps blood. And the blood itself has a large amount of hemoglobin, which helps to deliver oxygen to all vital organs without problems. In winter, the animals sink lower, but it's still about thirteen thousand feet above sea level. At the same time, such a high-altitude terrain is not a problem at all for Yaks and they move perfectly in the mountains. Short muscular legs easily lift a heavy body uphill, and hooves allow you to rest on the ground and not slip down. And with all this, the Yaks even manage to sort things out right in the mountains. But for energy, such a body needs food, which still needs to be found and it is not always easy to do this in mountainous areas. Therefore, Yaks usually feed on mosses and lichens, shrub shoots, grass and even dried vegetation. And in this case, the special shape of the animal's lips helps, they are thin and easily allow you to dig out the detected food from under the snow. And the horns can also help, because the Yak is like a bulldozer with their help masterfully removes the upper layer of the earth. At the same time, even during feeding, it is better not to approach the Yak, because their nervous system is very easily excitable and I can get furious about anything. And even domestic yaks during milking usually first throw a rope on the horns. Separately, it is worth mentioning about Yak milk, it is twice as fat as cow's milk and has been widely used by Tibetans for thousands of years. For example, cheese and butter are made from it, which may not spoil for a whole year. True, they give little milk, so they milk the Yak several times a day. Animal hair is also highly valued, clothes from which are very warm, worn for a long time and do not cause allergies. And of course such natural climbers have long been used as pack animals. Yaks can carry heavy loads and do it for quite a long time, so in many mountainous areas they are invaluable human assistants to this day. Although by themselves they are very wayward and unpredictable animals that avoid the close presence of humans and they choose hard-to-reach areas at an altitude of thirteen thousand feet for their habitat. Yaks also live mainly in small groups of 10-15 heads, which consist, as a rule, of females with young calves. Large males live and graze mostly alone. But everything changes when autumn comes. Around September and October, the Yak begins the rut period and the bulls decide to join the herds of cows, then it becomes clear why they live as bachelors, because the bulls become extremely ferocious, they challenge opponents to a duel and this is not at all like the demonstrative battles of some other polorogih.
