The Fairey Swordfish looked absurd against the towering Bismarck — slow, outdated, and fragile. But on a grey May evening in 1941, one of those canvas-covered relics struck the most decisive blow of the war at sea. A single torpedo jammed the Bismarck’s rudder, leaving her helpless before the Royal Navy’s guns. The laughter stopped — and the myth of the invincible battleship ended. Sources • Kennedy, Ludovic.
