Run and Gun Bluefin Tuna Cape Cod

Mid July Tuna fishing off Cape Cod, Massachusetts with Matt DeAmbrose of Tighten Up Charters, my dad and brother. The day started off with us encountering some thick fog, which hindered our ability to search for birds or any surface activity. After making a slight move and waiting, the sun started to burn off the fog and we were able to continue as planned. Searching the horizon for any signs of life, we came up on dozens of feeds but as soon as we would get within distance, the fish were either down, or racing to another area too far away By 10am we were tight with our first fish. Captain hooked up with it on a Ron Z. My dad and brother were able to fight their first tuna. 46 inch fish landed. Fish in the box, we continued bouncing from feed to feed and by 11am we were tight on our 2nd fish. This time on a Hogy Protail. Mid fight the GoPro died. Did not measure this fish but it was definitely bigger than the first, estimated at 55 inches. After landing, bleeding and icing the fish we decided to start to head back. On our way in we continued to see some good feeds and when closer to the race, we had an awesome whale show. 4-5 whales were performing a bubble feed and coming right out of the the water. We were saying that even if we didn’t catch fish, the whales made it all worthwhile. In total we went 2 for 2 with tuna and ended up hooking or getting tangled with close to 15 birds lol.
