'Sam Cooke with Bumps Blackwell Orchestra' with "You Send Me" recorded from the original English 78 rpm shellac single on London HLU-8506. "You Send Me", with B-side "Summertime", was released in the UK in November 1957. In the US the single was released in September 1957 on Keen and peaked at Nr. 1 on the Billboard's Rhythm & Blues and Pop Charts. Both sides were recorded on June 1, 1957 at Radio Recorders in Hollywood, California with Sam Cooke on lead vocals, Clifton White on electric lead guitar, René Hall on rhythm guitar, Ted Brinson on bass and Earl Palmer on drums. Backing vocals by the Lee Gotch Singers featuring Sue Allen, Alicia Adams, Lee Gotch and Charles Parlato. Produced by Robert 'Bumps' Blackwell and arranged and conducted by René Hall. Words and music by Sam Cooke. The B-side, "Summertime", will be available shortly. Musical style: Rhythm & Blues. Video recorded by Antoon van Olderen using an audio-technica player model AT-LP1240-USB with an Ortofon 2M 78 MM-stylus and audio captured off air via a Driade D 71 MK II speaker. This video is a recorded live demonstration of a playback of the 78 RPM shellac format on modern day equipment and is shared for archival and research purposes.
