This poultry farming video focuses on optimizing egg production by waiting until the ideal target weight prior to changing from grower feed to prelayer complete feed. The video covers average flock weight, uniformity, coefficient of variation, and the importance of body weight at onset of laying. The protocol requires weighing laying hens regularly and gradually transitioning from one feed to another. Continuing the grower feed for an extra week or two is recommended if the target weight is not achieved. Following these steps helps achieve optimal flock uniformity, resulting in higher egg production and lower mortality after 55-60 weeks of age. In this poultry farming video we showed: 1. Our Average Flock Weight at 18 weeks of Age 2. The Uniformity 3. The Coefficient of Variation (cv) 4. How we intend to maximize egg production by waiting until the ideal Target weight prior to changing from Grower poultry feed to Pre-Layer (prelayer) complete chicken feed. From 12 weeks until commencement of egg production, change of feed is based on body weight. This is because Pullet body weight at onset of laying is the main factor that influences egg weight and the best predictor of future laying performance. Once egg production begins, small commercial layers remain small and large chickens remain large throughout the laying cycle. Given that we did not receive our Point of Layers or Point of Cages until 14 weeks, we prioritized achieving the optimum weight uniformity by 16 or 18 weeks of age. Usually, when flock uniformity is high at 16 weeks of age, egg production is higher, and mortality is lower after 55 – 60 weeks of age. Our protocol requires Maintaining a schedule of weighing laying hens, starting in the first week after transfer: 1. From transfer to 29 weeks, weigh 100 birds individually every week. 2. Weigh birds in the same cages each time for best accuracy. 3. Calculate uniformity and CV If the target weight is not achieved by 15 or 16 weeks of age, we recommend continuing the Grower feed for one or two more weeks before transitioning to prelayer chicken feed. When changing from one feed to another, it is important to do so gradually. When transitioning from one feed to another, begin with 80% of current ration and 20% of new ration. Gradually increase the amount of new ration vs the old each day until the old feed is totally replaced. This minimizes disruption as chickens feed based on sight. If you notice the flocks going off feed at any point in the transition process, take an extra day or two and slow the transition down. The transition can last from 7 to 10 days. https://petrosfarms.com/ #batterycage #isabrown #poultryfarming #poultrybusiness #poultryfarmconstruction
