By listening to a constant sound of your choosing, you're less likely to notice abrupt changes in the background noise. They can also be relaxing to listen to, particularly deeper pink or brown noise, fan sounds, and nature sounds. As an overview, I recommend the LectroFan Evo for white noise and fan sounds, as well as loud volume. The Sound+Sleep has the widest range of nature sounds. The Marpac Uno has an internal fan that creates an authentic rushing air sound. The LectroFan Micro 2 is my favorite for travel. The Dreamegg D3 is a good mid-range option.
