Two centuries of Western global supremacy have led to "damaging consequences," among them that "the West does not understand China, and as a result, its predictions about the country are almost invariably wrong," said Martin Jacques, a British scholar of international relations and politics. He made the remarks in his opening address to the 2nd World Conference on China Studies in Shanghai.
