lead: Hamilton Dukes & Thomas Wright (1st and 2nd tenor singing bass), track A3 on self-titled LP (Central Sound 141) Robert L. Ivory (Robert Lee) was born November 10, 1933 in Fort Davis, Alabama to Lee Allen Ivory and Queen Ester Daniels Ivory. He married his wife Rosa in 1952 with whom he had three children. With Rosa, he was baptized in the Church of Christ in Haines City, FL and remained a committed member and pastor of the denomination throughout his life. Because of this commitment to a denomination that bans instruments, all of his recordings are a cappella. He formed The Spiritual Seven in Haines City in 1970, recording this LP with them in 1976. The Spiritual Seven included Robert L. Ivory (first lead), Hamilton Dukes (second lead), Robert M. Ivory (first tenor), Thomas Wright (second tenor), Jule Lee (baritone), Frank Major (first bass) and Jake Peavy (second bass). In 1977 he moved to Birmingham, Alabama where, with Elijah Bush, Sr., he formed and co-managed The Inter-City Singers of the South (later called Inner City Singers) with whom he recorded at least two LPs. Also in Birmingham, he recorded an LP entitled "I'm A Hard Fighting Soldier" with nine members of the Ivory family and members of the Ensley Church of Christ. Robert's son, Robert M. Ivory (Robert McArthur) sang on all but the first Inter-City Singers LP. Robert L. Ivory passed away in 2014, accomplishing 62 years of marriage with his wife Rosa, who followed him in 2022.
