WEST ASHLEY, S.C. (WCIV) — The Lowcountry Center for Conservation officially opened its doors on Thursday, marking a significant milestone for conservation advocates in the region. The new headquarters, located off Old Towne Road in West Ashley, is being hailed as an "oasis" for preservationists. Elizabeth Hagood, the former director of the Lowcountry Land Trust, highlighted the vision behind the center. "It is actually the idea, dream of Mrs. Emily Ravenel Farrow. Who left this beautiful piece of property to the Land Trust," said Hagood. The site, once a farm known as Ashem dating back to Colonial times, is now a hub for conservation efforts.
