What do you do when you get a bounced check from a customer? Do you fly off the handle? Do you politely ask them to handle it? What and how do you handle bounced checks? Recently a friend of mine who is just starting a moving business had the pleasure and unfortunate experience of having a substantial check bounce on him when he went to cash in the amount of close to $5,000. What would you do if your customer bounced a check of this amount? Well, my friend almost when broke and because of this, happily, he did recover the money owed to him...and thanks in large part to his friends doing what they felt was right. But… Be honest… How would you handle a bounced check? In my own experience, I have handled it horribly and I’ve handled it correctly...and based on that experience I hope to impart to you how I would handle a bounced check scenario. What can you do for bounced check legal action? They're many actions you can take when it comes to bounced check legal action. You could take them to small claims court, or civil court if the amount is higher than the limited small claims court. In some states writing a bounced check is called "Theft of Services" and is a felony and can be prosecuted and if found guilty they could go to jail and/or prison. So don't be afraid to take checks even if you get the occasional returned check for NSF. However...
