Wednesday June 5 2019 at 11.44. The 10.15 Bishops Lydeard to Minehead (11.35) train running 11 minutes late and pulled by 7802 Bradley Manor built in 1938. It featured in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe film. Thirty Manor Class locomotives were built and, remarkably, nine have been preserved. Three were working this line on the day this was uploaded. This is the West Somerset Railway which is actually owned by Somerset Country Council who bought it and lease it to the WSR due to concerns that any private owner would sell the valuable station site here in Minehead. This means that it is the council who will have to pay for the renewal of this crossing which is due. Interestingly a figure of one million pounds has been mentioned. That is the same outrageous cost that Network Rail mentions sometimes. The Council, however, must be free of NR's restrictive practices and could surely get a far more realistic price. Due to the poor track layout at this station, locomotives cannot move from one platform to the other without leaving the station altogether via this crossing. To avoid annoying motorists, once a loco uses the crossing, the barriers are raised and the engine waits for a while before returning to the station.
