Track 3 from their third album "All Four One" released in 1982 copyright Capitol Records. It was their first produced by Val Garay at his Record One studio in Los Angeles. Recording began in early 1981 and the new material had a darker, heavier tone than their earlier work. When they presented the finished product to the record company it was rejected as being too weird and not commercial enough for their liking. The band attempted to re-record the album but while doing so, guitarist Tim McGovern's relationship with Martha Davis ended and he left the band. McGovern had been critical of Garay's production during the first sessions and with him gone, Garay decided to hire studio musicians for most of the sessions and worked to create a more commercial sound this time around. Guy Perry was hired as the band's new lead guitarist during this time and played on several tracks. The album received excellent reviews and was the band's best-selling album. The single "Only the Lonely" reached No. 9 on the Billboard chart and two others placed on the Billboard Hot 100. Music videos were produced for "Only the Lonely" and "Take the L" and were very popular on the new MTV network. Martha Davis won an award for "Best Performance in a Music Video" for "Only the Lonely" at the American Music Awards that year. The album reached No. 39 in Canada, No. 20 in Australia, No. 19 in New Zealand and No. 16 in the U.S. It was certified Gold in the U.S. six months after its release.
