Introduction to Oblique Shocks

Why do you care about an oblique shock? Well, the reason is because that is the type of shock you are going to see most frequently. With normal shocks, we had a supersonic flow that had to slow down. However, it didn't have to change direction. In real life though, the flow is going to often have to change direction. When that happens we will see one of two phenomena. Either an oblique shock when the flow is turned towards itself or an expansion fan when the flow is turned away. Learning how to deal with these is vital to understanding a supersonic flow.
