Chinese tire makers flatten global competitors amid China-made EV boom

In east China's Guangrao County, tires are a powerhouse industry rolling onto the global stage, full speed ahead. Data shows that the county’s factories churn out some 177 million radial tires annually, about 86 percent of which are bound for export. Much of that export strength rides on a new generation of high-performance tires born from intensive, targeted R and D. This company, for instance, has invested more than 28 million U.S. dollars into an R and D center focused on new energy vehicle tires and sustainable materials. As part of their global push, some of the region’s tire manufacturers have localized production in key overseas markets, while making new inroads in Africa and the Americas. Guangrao County accounts for some 20 percent of China’s tire production.
