Rolling of billets to wire rods. This is a video showing how a billet is converted into a wire rod. A billet is heated to austenetizing temperature inside a furnace and then moved through a series of vertical and horizontal rolls which make the billet progressively thinner. Finally it is wound into circular form using high speed laying machine which swirls the coil at very high velocity. My Job was to ensure the quality of those coils to match the customers requirements ( composition, hardness, tensile strength, upset strength etc... and rectify any complaints from the customer ( after sales )
