"Kiiri" represents the latest Ganda Boys' vision of the music of the ancient tribes of Uganda (Buganda) fused with the majesty of a Western classical orchestra. The triumphant opening fanfare heralds in the Luganda chants and from there it builds into a refrain of inspiration and solidarity. The string arrangement was conceived to blend and uplift the main melody. The traditional 12/8 Bugandan rhythms ("Abakisimba") power the structure of the song and drive it forward. The message in the chants is about the invisible hand that takes our loved ones away from us — for various dark and hidden reasons, or just from sheer ignorance, misguided tribal beliefs or violent purposes. These chants highlight the terrible practice of child sacrifice in rural communities of Africa, and calls people to unite against these evils. Written, composed, produced, arranged and recorded this year by the Ganda Boys, "Kiiri" is a shining example of what you can expect from the new, up and coming Ganda Boys (3rd) album, "Mawe", released in early 2015; TO FEATURE: "Big Machines", "Something of My Life" (with Juliana Kanyomozi), "Prayer", "Our Brothers" (with Royal Philharmonic Orchestra), "Mountains of the Moon" (with Isiah Katumwa), "The Time Has Come" (World Peace One song), "United We Stand", "Lake Victoria" and "Motown Never Came to Africa" (to name a few!). Ganda Boys are dedicated to taking Ugandan fusion music to a whole new level.
