A Good Race - P1!!! - Sprint 3 - PCA Spec Boxster at Sonoma - 8/28/2022

My first race win! Started in fourth, and had to pick my way through the leaders to get it done. Thanks to the crew at BR Racing for keeping me, and the car, going strong. This was a huge weekend. 29 cars, the largest field of SPB's ever run in a PCA West Coast race, including championship leaders from Texas. These were the cars I ultimately had to pass for second and first place. This was also a longer-than-usual sprint, at 40 minutes compared to 30. I've posted the entire race as a memento; it's all good stuff. Race start [0:00] Start of the move for P2 [9:15] I started reeling the leaders in a few laps into the race, as their fresh tires start to fade. I knew I was faster in a few crucial places, including the run through T8-10, and used that here to compromise P2 into T11. Though he beats me down the next straight, I have a stronger exit out of T2 (this will be a common theme). The move for P2 [10:00] Present to the inside, knowing he'll try to block me. The speed carried to do this carries him off line. I know I've got him at the exit through T3A, and complete the move into T4. Time to chase the leader. Hello, leader [16:54] Lapped traffic. Wonder if we can use this? [18:30] Start of the move for P1 [18:45] Lapped traffic compromises the leader slightly into T11. I modify my braking to square off the corner, giving me a better exit and run down the straight. I know I'm faster through T2-4; time to make a move. The move for P1 [19:10] I'm able to take a narrower run up through T1 than most. Leader tries to close this off but ends up wide, compromising his entry to T2. I run up behind him, knowing I can beat him to the middle of T3. He covers off the inside, but I beat him to T3A and complete the move out of T4. I then start to walk away. Full course yellow! [21:00] Car off between T3 and T4. This being a longer than typical sprint, I know we're likely to go back to green. Part of me just wants to end the race here, but I choose instead to focus on how I'll pull away at the restart. I've got this. (fast forward) The restart [21:51] I build a gap out of T2, continue to pull away, then focus on maintaining that gap for the last few laps. Celebratory drift of T7 [30:45] I'm a bit of a jerk :).
