Today, we take a quick look at a firearm I've been trying to add to my collection for over a decade. This is the heavy barrel FSL (LSR) rifle in 7.62mm NATO (.308). It is a semi-only version of the Argentinian military's FAP, with both rifles manufactured by FMAP, Rosario in Argentina. The FAP in its turn was a licensed produced version of the Belgian FALO from FN. The rifle in this video is an original preban example made back in the 1980s, and imported by Armscorp of Silversprings MD. These are uncommon to say the least, and it is only thanks to two friends that I was able to find and purchase this example. It is a great shooter, and the build quality is every bit as high as on an FN 50.41 or 50.42 FAL Match. Armscorp only imported a few hundred complete FMAP FAL type rifles before the 1989 ban (as well as several bare receivers I should add). They offered 4 FMAP factory built variants: 1) Standard - Same as a military FAL, but limited to semi-only with a 21" barrel, fixed stock, and optional bipod. 2) Congo/Carbine - Same as the standard, but with a shorter 18" barrel. 3) Paratrooper Carbine - 18" or 17.3" barrel, and side folding tubular metal buttstock. 4) Heavy Barrel - Semi-only version of the FAP LMG, with 21" heavy barrel, extended flash hider, heavy duety bipod, and fixed polymer buttstock.
