The Spancilhill Horse Fair

For one day each year on 23rd June a field in the centre of Clare becomes the focus for Thousands of horse buyers and sellers. Spancilhill Fair has been running for 300 years and is a great day out for the family. The sights and the smells, the middlemen and the deals. Horses, ponies, donkeys, dogs and fowl are all sold there. The craic and banter as potential buyers haggle for the best price and the seller tries to keep them interested. Unlike the lyrics of the song the Fair is on the 23rd of June. I heard stories at the Fair of many people coming to Spancilhill on the 24th and being disappointed. If the 23rd falls on a Sunday then the Fair will be on the 24th.
