Two Māori Blessings – SA, piano or organ

These two short blessings were commissioned by the Junior School at Diocesan School for Girls in Auckland. They were to be designed for use in daily worship and needed to be simple enough for 5 to 10 year-olds. Although a harmony part was not requested, it was suggested that a simple canon might be a suitable approach. The pieces may be sung as unison songs (voice 1 only) or sung in two-parts as a canon as laid out in the score. They have been used successfully with choirs from primary school age through to adult community groups. The texts are brief blessings in Māori from ''A New Zealand Prayer Book/He Karakia Mihinare o Aotearoa': Ko Ihu te Ariki. Ko ia tonu te Ariki. Amine. Jesus is Lord. He is the Lord. Amen.
