Rare footage from an Eastern Airlines Flight Engineer, recorded on a VHS tape in 1986. Shows an Eastern Airlines L-1011 TriStar, registration N317EA, on the ground in New York City. After the unfortunate closure of Eastern, it was delivered to Air Algerie for a few months, and then American Trans Air. In 1991, the plane was delivered to Delta Airlines under the registration N784DA, and was broken up in 2003 at Marana Boneyard. More information, as well as photos, are available online. The Lockheed L-1011 TriStar, is an American medium-to-long-range, wide-body trijet airliner by Lockheed Corporation. It was the third wide-body airliner to enter commercial operations, after the Boeing 747 and the McDonnell Douglas DC-10. The airliner has a seating capacity of up to 400 passengers and a range of over 4,000 nautical miles (7,410 km). Its trijet configuration has three Rolls-Royce RB211 engines with one engine under each wing, along with a third center-mounted engine. The aircraft has an autoland capability, an automated descent control system, and available lower deck galley and lounge facilities. The aircraft also has a dedicated smoking section, 7 lavatories, giant movie screens, large ceilings, and multiple elevators that take crew to the lower deck galleys.
