I'm still getting the hang of this whole CPAP thing, but in the six months since I started therapy, I've learned SO MUCH about masks that I wish someone had told me before I started a symbiotic relationship with one. The most important things I wish I had known: 1) Masks come in all shapes and sizes, and what works for one person won't work for another. 2) If you hate the first mask you're prescribed, most DMEs will let you swap it out within the first 30 days, or they'll just give you a new one. 3) Many modern masks, like the Philips Dreamwear and ResMed "i" series, are modular, so if you have a full face mask, you can just swap two relatively inexpensive bits and have a completely different mask. 4) Even a lifelong mouth-breather like me can learn to nose-breathe, although what works for one person won't necessarily work for everyone. 5) I don't care who you are, there's almost certainly a CPAP mask that will work for you. Don't give up. Be stubborn! Decide that you're going to find a mask that works and you will.
