With mission temperatures soaring above 450°C (842°F), ESTEC’s Large Space Simulator had to be specially modified to deliver a comparably sweltering environment. Ushio contributed a solar simulation array consisting of multiple high-wattage xenon short arc lamps, each capable of blasting 25,000W (25kW) at the Mercury-bound spacecraft.
