This gives new meaning to "make mine a double." Trainer Brendan Walsh has the horses to toast heading into the Breeders' Cup Distaff. He'll saddle both the 3-year-old filly Clicquot, winner of Parx's G1 Cotillion in her last start and named for the historic champagne, and the 4-year-old filly Gin Gin, front-running winner of Keeneland's G1 Juddmonte Spinster by a head at 18-1 odds. Now they just have to create cause for celebration after the race! Walsh believes both have a big chance in what appears to be a wide-open Distaff with the retirement of 2024 winner and Horse of the Year Thorpedo Anna after her fourth-place Spinster. Asked who's the Distaff favorite, Walsh said, "You could probably make a case for a half dozen of them, and you could still be wrong.... Anybody could win it." Clicquot worked a half-mile in 48 seconds flat Saturday morning at Churchill Downs. Gin Gin worked an easy half-mile in 49 2/5 at Keeneland two days earlier. Walsh also is running Imaginationthelady, who is 2-for-2 after winning Keeneland's G2 Jessamine, in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. That filly worked a half-mile in 48 flat Friday at Turfway Park.
