Pasimachus viridans is a large predatory beetle that is native to the southern parts of the Sonoran Desert including parts of Mexico and Arizona. The U.S. is home to many familiar species of Pasimachus, but P. viridans is arguably the most striking of them all with the vibrant green hues that line its thorax and elytra. What the different Pasimachus species do have in common, however, is their ferocious disposition, speed, and massive jaws. These beetles are built to hunt down and rip apart their insect prey. Armored like a tank, capable of running 6X its body length every second (the human equivalent would be running at 25 MPH), and massive, sharp, ripping jaws, these ground beetles would be terrifying if they weren't only an inch long!
