Recently acquired a Fender Princeton Reverb with a 12 inch speaker. When I ordered it, there was almost nothing about it online so I took the risk. Upgrading from a Blues Junior and looking for a “Blackface” tone, I thought it could be a fit as I liked 12 inch speakers of the BJ not the so much the mids. So, here’s a quick video to answer all the questions I had before buying it and I would be happy to find now. NOTE: Recorded with an iphone in front of the speaker. Do I get the glassy tone I’m looking for? Yes. Out of the box, volume at 2, treble and bass at 5, plug a strat in and you have what the typical sound many of use are after. Is it too bassy ? It’s balanced. Coming from a blues junior, it doesn’t feel like I’ve lost bass response. Is it a good pedal platform ? YES. It handles my four distortions very well, much much better than my blues junior. If you’re not happy with your blues junior for this reason, this might do the trick. How loud is it ? Too loud ? At 2 it already sounds amazing while acceptably loud. Is it bedroom level, probably not but acceptable. I tried to push it a bit, it gets loud quickly but it seems like there’s a plateau after 4-5. Need to test it with a drummer but it seems loud enough for rehearsal. How green is the thing ? Not much. That was a concern, I’m not joking. Green is not my favorite color. But seriously it’s ok. Photos from Thomann are misleadingly way too green. There a comparison with a standard green Tortex in the video. Is it worth upgrading from a Blues Junior? From my perspective YES without any regret. I was frustrated with my BJ and sometimes didn’t understand why. I did some reasearch and found out I could be a good fir for a Princeton with a 12 inch speaker. But There’s not many on the market. I ordered one on Thomann in August before release date and it arrived in October. I’m SO happy I upgraded. Now I’m just playing, not paying attention to the amp. I would do it again. Is it worth the price? I have to say princeton aren’t cheap. Clearly. I wouldn’t mind a 500e reduction but I don’t regret any euro of this purchase (as of now).
