Far Side of My Soul is a visual jazz story inspired by Stan Getz’s journey to Brazil — a search for a new environment, a new sound, and a way out of the pressures and addictions surrounding the American jazz scene. In this reimagined moment, Getz leaves behind the noise of expectation and excess and finds something quieter, deeper, and more honest. Brazil becomes both a physical destination and a spiritual reset — a place where his music, and his soul, could breathe again. That journey led to one of the most important chapters of his career, producing music that would echo for generations — eventually inspiring The Pharcyde and their classic track Runnin'. In the Upside Down Underground, the roles reverse. The sampled artist becomes the storyteller. The jazz musician “samples” the future. Sung primarily in Portuguese with an English hook, Far Side of My Soul is about turning over a new leaf — finding love, purpose, and identity in unfamiliar places. It’s a meditation on escape, rebirth, and the quiet courage it takes to start again.
