A VERY busy afternoon at Mortlake, White Hart Lane, and North Sheen Level Crossings, Greater London

Date filmed: Saturday the 2nd of November 2024 Videos filmed between 12:10pm and 2:19pm Route: London Waterloo to Reading Line Between Barnes (BNS) Richmond (RMD) Stations Crossing type(s): Manually Controlled Barrier crossing with CCTV (MCB-CCTV) All three are the same type. Filming location(s): 1) B351 Sheen Lane, Mortlake (SW14 8LN) 2) White Hart Lane, Mortlake (SW13 0JL) 3) B353 Manor Road, North Sheen (TW9 1TF) Featuring: ‪@UKLevelCrossingsChannel‬ @ElectraProductions225 (   / @electralevelcrossings  ) ‪@UKLCSandT‬ ‪@MGRinger02‬ New Years Day 2025's viewing should be sorted nicely by this 28-minute-long compilation from the Mortlake area in West London on the London Waterloo to Reading Line, and from three of the four level crossings between Barnes and Richmond. On the day of filming, an England Rugby match was being played at Twickenham, which resulted in nastily-crowded trains out of London in the early afternoon, and to combat this as much as possible, a significant amount of extra trains were brought out to ferry the fans out to Twickenham. This meant that the line through here almost became busier than it would on a day where it would take South West Mainline diversions, and there was only one period of rest all afternoon which was longer than about 5 minutes or so. Indeed, there was very little opportunity to get the barriers up - Mortlake was lowered for at least eight or nine trains in a single lowering when we arrived! Throughout the entire video, you've a total of 33 trains passing by, amongst which are a seasonal track-cleaning train seen twice and a brand-new Class 701 'Arterio'. I hope you enjoy this video! Unfortunately, as you can see in bits throughout, a handful of people made the silly choice of darting through the barriers rather than use the footbridge or wait; instances of particular note (both at Mortlake) include a motorcycle overtaking a misusing van (illegal in more than one way), and even a postwoman darting between the trailing barriers as they were lowered! A very quick and commendable reaction from the signaller meant they weren't trapped, but they thrusted their postal wagon through the barriers (thinking they would get trapped) causing it to nearly hit a waiting vehicle off camera. This was one of the worst misuses I'd filmed all year in 2024.
