Focal Nodular Hyperplasia of the Liver

FNH is a benign lesion of the liver . It was first seen in this patient on an unenhanced CT of the liver which showed Fatty liver and this lesion in the posterior segment of the right of the liver . The patient returned for a routine Gadavist or gadalonium enhanced MRI which demonstrated a central enhancing scar sugesting that this represents Focal Nodular Hyperplasia. Lesion was Confirmed by performing MRI of the liver with a contrast agent called Eovist . Eovist is a contrast agent taken up exclusively by hepotcytes (fancy word for liver cells). Subsequent Eovist study demonstrates an enhancing lesion with a central nonenhancing scar after 30 mins.Eovist study demonstrates as the liver keep on taking up the contrast and gets brighter in the background the scar becomes non enhancing . The scar does not have liver cells and therefore this lesion is FOCAL NODULAR HYPERPLASIA
