In this work, the sun is treated as both an everyday presence and something we rarely get to truly see. We live under its light constantly, but during an eclipse, which is an uncommon event, we suddenly pay attention. For a short time, the sky changes, people look up together, and the sun becomes visible in a way it normally isn’t. The installation recreates this shift using a solar-powered system of rotating servo motors and layered polarising filters. As the motors move the filters, the light above the viewers fades, changes, and returns, forming artificial eclipses that echo the slow transitions of the real phenomenon. The work encourages visitors to look upward and notice how the light passes through different states. Here, the eclipse is a reminder of how something familiar can feel different when conditions line up just right. There’s no eclipse without the sun, and no special moment without the everyday one that surrounds it. By using sunlight to generate these artificial eclipses, the piece points back to the natural source itself—steady, present, and quietly powerful. The experience isn’t complete on its own. Viewers, the installation, and the sun must fall into place together. When everything aligns, the work reveals its full presence, creating a total solar eclipse, eventually forms an elevated moment.
