Okonomiyaki is one of our very favorite things to make and eat! So we decided to make a video showing you how! Recipe: (This Okonomiyaki is made Kansai style!) (makes 4 small Okonomiyaki pancakes) Ingredients: ~3 cups of cut cabbage ~1/2 - 1 cup green onion ~1 cup Okonomiyaki Powder (purchase at an Asian market) ~1 - 2 eggs (you decide! we like 2 eggs) ~3/4 cup water ~Meat of your choice (shrimp and pork are the most common) you can choose the quantity (but not too much for your first try!) Topping: ~Kewpie Mayonnaise - regular and wasabi (optional) ~Okonomiyaki sauce! (can be bought at an Asian market) ~Aonori (seaweed flakes) (Asian market) ~Katsuobushi (fish flakes) (Asian market) --(we didn't have this for this video but its a common topping) Directions: Mix cabbage, onion, eggs, powder, water, and meat together in a mixing bowl. Preheat fry pan on low - medium heat. (if its too high the pancake will burn VERY easily) (be sure to add some sort of oil to prevent sticking) Pour Okonomiyaki mix onto the hot fry pan. Cook until golden brown, then flip. Cook the other side until golden brown. When done, take off the fry pan. Add Mayonnaise, Okonomiyaki sauce, aonori, and katsuobushi on the top. ENJOY!! ^W^ For Kimchi Okonomiyaki: ~1 1/2 cups cabbage ~1 1/2 cups kimchi ~1/2 cup green onion ~1-2 eggs ~1 1/2 cup powder -(Kimchi has juice and can make the batter runny! estimate how much powder you will need to make the pancake stick together. Water is optional for this recipe because of the kimchi juice. Make sure the batter isn't too runny or it will be hard to flip.) ~Kimchi is a substitute for meat but you can add meat if you like (but good luck tasting it over the kimchi!) Extra directions: Cook Kimchi Okonomiyaki only on low heat. It will burn much easier than a normal cabbage pancake! Watch carefully!! Apply the toppings! and TADA! ^W^ Disclaimer: none of the music in this video belongs to me.
