In 1991, Fondmetal was testing before the Monaco Grand-Prix on Circuit du Var with Olivier Grouillard. Fondmetal was a new team in 1991; in fact, it was the Osella team purchased by Gabriele Rumi (Fondmetal boss and main sponsor of Osella previous years) This circuit (around 130km from Monaco) is a short circuit with slow corners : a good track to prepare Monaco Grand-Prix. A competitor was also testing the same day : AGS. AGS factory is just near the circuit with a direct access to the track. In F1, between 1988 and 1992, there were so many teams, a pre-qualify session was in friday morning for 8 cars. Only the 4 quickest drivers could go to the qualify session where 30 cars were running for 26 available places on the grid. Olivier Grouillard was the slower driver of the pre-qualify session (+4.499), so the team was not qualified for Monaco Grand-Prix. Later, AGS and Fondmetal swapped the drivers, Grabriele Tarquini becomes the new Fondmetal driver for the last rounds of the year.
